April Association Meeting

Meeting Reminder Our April Association meeting is Thursday, April 11 at 6:30 p.m. Meetings typically last about an hour. The meeting will be held in the Fellowship Hall (basement) of State Street Baptist Church, located at the corner of State Street & L Avenue. Guest Speaker - Dr. Rev. Stewart Rawson, Still Hopes Still Hopes is the only Episcopal-sponsored, non-profit Continuing Care Retirement Community in the Columbia area, and they're located right here in our neighborhood. Dr. Rawson, the marketing director for the community, will be sharing about the growth of the community, specifically the new areas that are having a grand opening on Sunday. Public Safety Officers and Code Enforcement will also be in attendance to provide updates and answer questions.

Put it on your calendar! We're just a couple weeks away from the Cayce Festival of the Arts, held in partnership with the City of Cayce's Soiree on State. This is the third year this family-friendly event will be held right in the middle of our neighborhood. Grab your friends and come out to the party on State Street. Saturday, April 27, 2019 3-8 p.m.

December Meeting & Holiday Potluck

Meeting Reminder Our December Association meeting is Thursday, December 13 at 6:30 p.m. Meetings typically last about an hour. The meeting will be held in the Fellowship Hall (basement) of State Street Baptist Church, located at the corner of State Street & L Avenue. Annual Holiday Potluck Each year, we combine our December meeting with our holiday potluck. We'll provide a meat and beverages; bring an appetizer, side dish or dessert to share with your neighbors. The December meeting is a more laid-back format than our usual meeting, so this is a great time to join us if you've been meaning to visit. BUT we will still have a public safety officer at the meeting to give a crime report and receive member concerns.

Board elections are next month. We will be holding elections for Association Board at the January meeting; this year we have 4 positions that need to be filled. The board typically meets once per month to plan our monthly meetings and organize the Association's two events: the Cayce Festival of the Arts and the Avenues Tree Lighting Project. If you have not previously served on the board, please consider putting your name on the ballot; it's a great way to serve our community without a huge time commitment. November Association Meeting

Meeting Reminder As a reminder, our Avenues November meeting is Thursday, November 8 at 6:30 p.m. Meetings typically last about an hour. The meeting will be held in the Fellowship Hall (basement) of State Street Baptist Church, located at the corner of State Street & L Avenue. Ann Malpass, Woman's Club of Cayce Our guest speaker this month is Ann Malpass from The Woman's Club of Cayce. Ann is the Chairwoman of the Club's Annual Tree Lighting Project. She has exciting news to share about this year's tree lighting. Public Safety and Code Enforcement officers will also be in attendance to provide updates and answer questions.

Avenues Christmas Tree Fundraiser Flyers have gone out for the annual Christmas tree fundraiser. The price for the trees this year is $25; online ordering is available. The last day to order your tree is Wednesday, November 14. >>> CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO <<<

2017 Christmas Tree Lighting Fundraiser

The 2017 Avenues Christmas Tree Fundraiser has begun!

The cost this year is $22 per tree. 
Flyers are going out this week and next week via trashcan roll carts. 

The deadline to turn your order in is Saturday, November 18. 

Please take your orders to your street representative (see the back of your flyer), or bring it to the Avenues meeting on Thursday, November 16, which is being held at 6:30 in the Fellowship Hall of State Street Baptist.

July Meeting Reminder

Meeting Reminder 

Our July Association meeting will be Thursday, July 20 at 6:30 p.m. Meetings typically last about an hour. The meeting will be held in the Fellowship Hall (basement) of State Street Baptist Church, located at the corner of State Street & L Avenue.

A public safety officer will at be the meeting to give us an update on crime in our are and note any attendee concerns.

Membership Renewal 

As a reminder, membership renewals were due June 1. If you were not able to attend our meeting to pick up a renewal application , you can download an application HERE. Application and membership dues may be turned in at the meeting or mailed to our PO Box.

Guest Speaker: Artist Chris Robinson 

Southern Lights, a long-term art installation by Chris Robinson, will span the Congaree River between Blossom Street and Gervais Street bridges for a decade. The laser installation is scheduled to light up every evening in Cayce, West Columbia and Columbia every evening for the next decade, launching on Saturday, August 19 as part of the Total Solar Eclipse Weekend celebrations.

Chris will be joining us to tell us more about the installation and answer questions. This a great time to get some behind-the-scenes knowledge about the upcoming signature art attraction.

In the Community 

Food Drive in memory of Linda Keisler Meetze 

Long-time director of God's Helping Hands, Linda Keisler Meetze passed away in May 2017. To honor her memory and support Gods Helping Hands (which gives support to many families in Cayce), we'd like to make a special push to collect items to present to them in August.

If you are able, please consider picking up any of these items for our drive:

• Canned fruits & veggies 
• Canned meats (such as tuna, chicken, Spam) 
• Canned soup 
• Pop-top meals 
• Spaghetti sauce 
• Peanut butter 
• Cereal 
• Cooking oil 
• Dried beans 
• Juice 
• Jello 
• Personal toiletry items (such as bar soap, shampoo, toothpaste) 

If you are not able to bring the items to the meeting, please send an email or Facebook message and we will coordinate picking them up.

May Meeting Reminder

Guest Speaker: Leo Redmond, Cayce Historical Museum Leo is the director of our local historical museum and one of our most popular guest speakers. Previous talks have included sharing artifacts from the Revolutionary & Civil Wars, tracing signs of Native American inhabitants in our area, and explaining the history of neighborhood tree lighting project. You'll definitely want to come here which piece of local history Leo will be sharing with us at the meeting.

May 20: Governor's Cup Half Marathon Spirit Corp

The Lexington Medical Center Governor’s Cup Half Marathon will run through our neighborhood on the morning of Saturday, May 20.

We're planning to cheer the runners on!

Start your day at 900 L Avenue cheering on the half marathoner as they trek along L and M Avenues on Saturday. We can’t think of a better way to show off our neighborhood as a great place to live than coming out to encourage these long distance runners.

Be in place at 900 L Avenue in your Avenues T-shirt by 7:15am and be ready to cheer!  We anticipate the last runner to come through around 8:30am. We will supply the music so come prepared to jam out and ROCK THE AVENUES!

Need a t-shirt? No problem!

We'll have them for sale at the meeting tomorrow night. Cost is $15 for members and $20 for non-members. If you can't attend the meeting but still need a shirt, send us an email or a Facebook message.

2016 Avenues Tree Lighting Fliers

The flyers for the 2016 Tree Lighting Project are going out this week. The sanitation department is attaching them to your garbage roll cart. Please watch for yours.

City of Cayce Event: New Fire Truck "Wet-Down" Ceremony

City of Cayce residents are invited to the Wet-Down Ceremony for the city's new fire truck.

Second Annual Avenues Chili Cookoff

You're invited to the 2nd Annual Avenues Chili Cook-Off. We want to gather for some belly-warming food and games in the cold weather.

If you plan to enter a pot of chili, make a batch with at least 12 servings and bring it in a crockpot along with all the fixings that you put with your chili. Don't forget a ladle!

If you're not cooking chili, please bring a dessert to share and/or board game. The Association will provide beverages, bowls, spoons, cups, etc.

This event will be open to Association Members and their guests; please invite a neighbor. If you live in the neighborhood, but haven't attended a meeting, this is a great time to join in the fun.

Volunteer Call for the Cayce Festival of the Arts

The Cayce Festival of the Arts is just a little over two weeks away, and we're super excited.

At our body meeting last week, we discussed the need for volunteers at the Cayce Festival of the Arts. This is a vital part of our Festival being successful so we're asking for you help.

We will need help setting up on Friday, April 10 in the afternoon and all day on Saturday, April 11. Shifts on Saturday are only two hours, so we hope you'll all find time a little time to come by and help out.

If you can volunteer, please sign up here no later than April 1 so we can create our schedule and order your volunteer t-shirt.

2014 Christmas Tree Lighting Project

Flyers started going out this weekend for the Avenues Assssociation Christmas Tree Lighting Project.

We are fortunate that the Cayce Farmers Market was able to provide trees to us again for $20. Proceeds benefit the Cayce Historical Museum.

National Night Out Announcemnt

National Night Out Avenues Stroll

October 7 - 6pm - 7pm

Come join your neighbors for a stroll around the heart of the Avenues. You never know who might join us!

We start at 701 O Ave (Woman's Club of Cayce) to 9th, down N to 7th, and so on until Indigo then back to O Ave on 7th. Start the walk with us or join us when we pass your street.

Since it will start to get dark toward the end of the walk, please wear light colored clothing. Glow sticks will be provided.

The Cayce Granite Quarry Tour

A number of the Avenues neighbors took a guided tour of the Quarry today and loved the trip.  We spent an hour and half learning how to make little stones out of big rocks and how to stay safe in the process.

As you can see it is a very big hole in the ground.  Some five hundred feet deep and a totally closed operations.  Meaning that the water used is rain and runoff and recycled right back into the operation. No pollution here!  They think that there is  enough granite to last to 2050 at which time there will be a huge lake left for the residents of the area to enjoy.

As you can see our intrepid "Day miners" are dwarfed by the equipment.  These are not your father's Tonka Toys.

We had the opportunity to see a safety film and general description of the operation before going out to the site.

We actually came out with the same head count as we had on arrival.  All in all it was an enjoyable time and we all want to thank the plant head honcho John Overmyer for his generosity and expertise. Now we need to find another trip for the membership to enjoy.  Any ideas?
